Design / Concept / Patent Evaluation - I can undertake full evaluation of the feasibility of electronic designs / systems. I have experience of patent requirements, and have undertaken evaluations of patent validity. (Something which has been granted a patent may not work - there are some utterly impossible designs which hold extensive patents, and I have exposed some to clients who have asked me to investigate prior to investing)
Electronics Design - Analogue, Digital, Mixed Signal. Particular skills include innovative use of low cost components to implement cost / size reduction, low power analogue circuit design, sensor (capacitive and inductive) design.
Simulation + Simulation Models - I make extensive use of Electronic Simulation tools, and often simulate an entire design prior to physical prototype construction. This process allows far more reliable designs to be produced - It is quite possible to design a circuit, and produce a working prototype, only to discover problems when the product is put into production - Simulation allows component tolerances, thermal behavior etc. to be modeled, greatly reducing the risk of this kind of error. I also offer a Model Design Service where I will design a simulation model for a component or sub circuit. ( I use Proteus VSM and Spice-Age simulators mainly, and can develop models for these, or generic SPICE models.)
Summary:
I can undertake the full design / development cycle for small / medium sized projects (as a rough guideline anything more complex than a laptop PC or a digital recording console is probably stepping outside of my design ‘comfort zone’)
I can undertake sections of a large project, and work to tight specifications (If I am not managing a project, I insist on having comprehensive documentation and requirement specifications before I will quote a fixed price for the job).
I can offer a consultancy service to assist clients with their design problems - This is particularly applicable to designs employing Cypress PSoC parts.
My Main strengths are in analogue and mixed signal designs, and I have extensive experience with the Cypress PSoC parts - I undertake all aspects of designing using PSoCs (configuration, Firmware in C and assembler) and use these in preference to any other processor, and often as replacements for ‘conventional’ analogue circuitry. The ability to mix analogue and digital functions in a low cost PSoC often makes this the best design route, and sometimes it is the only design route that meets cost / size constraints.
I have a fully equipped design facility and development / test laboratory, which includes 4CH 800MS/S Gould Oscilloscope, HP Spectrum analyzer, 18CH Logic analyzer, Several PSoC In-circuit Emulators and full sets of ALL PSoC ‘Pods’ allowing systems using multiple PSoCs to be co-emulated. I also have MicroChip PIC In-circuit emulation and co-simulation, and all the other essential equipment such as power supplies, waveform generators etc.
